Retrospective
Twenty years on the road.
The film used a small fraction of what was shot in 2006 — roughly forty-five hours of footage went into a thirty-seven-minute documentary. The rest has been on tape for two decades. The retrospective begins there: with the footage, now re-digitized, and Rebecca Sherman's photographs of Fondwa.
All forty-five hours of the 2006 footage are being re-digitized from the original tapes — shot on a Panasonic DVX100B, preserved at its native frame rate rather than modernized. The film drew on only a small part of it. The rest ranges well beyond Fondwa: conversations recorded with people across Haiti, on subjects the thirty-seven-minute cut had no room for.
Scenes will publish here as they are prepared, each with its own context. This is the first phase of the retrospective.
